Staying in the Marquesas Another Week

April 20, 2013 2:00 pm / John

We are still in Taiohae Nuka Hiva….just a very lovely, big and so far not too rolly anchorage. AND, we have finally run out of gas!!!! Les and Rose left yesterday and we are extremely sad/depressed to see them go…..sniff, splat, sniff, splat….can you see the tears hitting the keyboard 🙁 (((( We had closing ceremonies at the Pearl Lodge and it was the best dinner we have had in a very long time…..fresh mahi parmesan, seared sesame tuna and a veggie risotto…..yummers!!!!!

My day yesterday – 3 naps…..finished one book, started another…..I did have brief moments of energy….put all the liquor back in the forward shower…..wow, the list is almost gone 🙂 ))))…..then I cleaned the dinghy…..whoa….did not know it had a white bottom….no mas sand 🙂 ))))

Kathy pretty much stayed on settee and did internet and read her book…..we did speak to one another but it was mainly quiet on Mystic…..so lonely now 🙁 ((((

We did the popcorn and movie thing…..started the Bourne series….

Got up @ 5:45 this am…..could have slept even longer…..Kathy made it up too…..made the local market which started around 5:00 am…..Valerie, the local gal we ordered from was cuter than before, dressed to the 9’s…..had all the stuff we had ordered…..lettuce, celery, bok choy, green beans, avocados, pinas….but, giggle, instead of 8 tomatoes each, we got 8 kilos….whoa….Kathy said no worries we will eat them all….haha!!! We still need to go to the magasin to get carrots, cereal et al!!!!

We have just spent the morning….yep, did it early while we had a little brain energy…..and figured out that we are not going to the Tuamotus quite yet. Our weather router, Omni Bob, confirmed what we saw on the gribs and charts that it is going to get nasty from Tuesday on in the Tuamotus…..several fronts and a HI pushing through…..there was a great trawler window had we left yesterday but that obviously did not happen.

So, we will hang in this bay a few more days, then go 2-3 miles west to Daniels Bay, where they filmed Survivor and have a good hike to a waterfall, then maybe midweek go over to Ua Pou for a few days. We think we might be able to leave next Friday or Saturday night…..we are going to Raroia for the first atoll!!!

And, guess what, Pacific High, Lagoon 500, is back here in the anchorage…..had a long talk with Klaus…..their passage was very trawler like…..calm seas and light winds….only 1 squall….took them 19 days like us….whoa!!!!! They are leaving in the next 3-4 days for Makemo…..just a little west of Raroia!!!! We will get together for HH soon!!!

Tired/Sad/Recuperating John

PS: So far no tattoos…..been too busy…..hmmm….may get the itch soon 🙂 ))))

PSS: Interlude, Somerset, Kaija Song…..best of luck on the passage….send us a position report every now and then and let us know how you are doing!!!!

Web Comments: thanks again for all the comments…..so good to get news and to hear from everyone!!!!! Yes, I did recover fairly quickly from the motion/sea sickness…..wow, I hope that never happens again…..now, I’m a bit gun shy!!!! Wow Jeanette…..snow in Fort Collins…..come to the south Pacific girlfriend!!!!

    Kathy & John,
We have been talking about how much you must be missing the Dobbes. The energy, insight, and sheer brain power on that boat made for fascinating reading. We are so happy that you are resting and getting your “mojo” back. I remember first meeting Les and Rose at a boat show in Seattle and he talked about the psychological changes you go through on a crossing. So take this time to mourn their departure and ready yourself for your next adventure and know that we are here cheering you on and waiting for the next chapter.
    Much love from us.
    C & B
