Final Stats on our South Pacific Crossing:
Just the facts ma’am (John’s):
– 285 days; almost 10 months; from January 5th when we transited the Panama Canal to October 18th when we arrived in Marsden Cove New Zealand
– traveled 8,366 nm…that’s a lot of miles!!!!
– 1214 engine hours; we now have 4400 total
– 1093 GEN hours; we now have 6000 total
– 45 nights at seas
– 241 nights at anchor; 3 nights on the hard, 41 nights at a marina (13 nights in Papeete, 28 nights in La Playita Panama)
– 6 countries
– 8 oil changes; 3 for Cummins 5 for GEN
– Dives…..too many to count:))))) Probably ~30-40
– Fish caught – hmmmm…..too many too count:))))); 2 spooled reels; one lost rod and reel – yes fishing is very $$$$$
– Illness: ok, had to include the successful hernia surgery in Panama that delayed our departure by 2 weeks
– Worst Seas: on passage from Tonga to New Zealand we had 10-12′ headseas short period; on passage from Galapagos to Marquesas for several days we had 12-15′ waves but on the aft port qtr
– Worst Winds: 25-30 kts on passage to Marquesas but on our port qtr; one squall we saw 40-45G50 kt winds; on passage from Tonga to New Zealand 20-25G30 kt headwinds which was the worst motion
– Calmest seas: Yes, we had trawler weenie weather almost the entire run from Panama to Galapagos and believe it, again on the Tonga to New Zealand run for a few days…..flat calm, mirror seas…yeah baby!!!!
– Most Traumatic Moment: being woken up by Kathy saying come up to the PH….we have a loud noise….that was the transmission oil cooler incident….I stayed paranoid for a good 24 hours after:(((
– Best April Fool’s Joke: well, it’s my story – turning the wrong fuel line valve causing the Cummins to shutdown on the Galapagos to Marquesas passage; I’m not sure Miss Rose or anyone else would agree…she might put that down as her most traumatic moment…..but it was on April 1:)))
– Satellite Phone Usage: spent $3000 between Iridium which we carried as backup because the Inmarsat was so unreadable; $1700 on reliable but slow Iridium which always had a signal; $1300 on Inmarsat because the FBB 150 was down 50% of the time; spent $900 on shipping the FBB antenna to Florida and back only to be told nothing was wrong…..NOT!!!!
-Liquor Consumed: for me to know and for you to come onboard Mystic Moon and find out:)))))
-Spare parts Used: 1 Balmar 300 amp alternator; ice maker module; many fans; fuse for dryer (2- such a PITA to change); fuses for Outback; Groco fresh water strainer
Parts Shipped In: I did not look up the costs – ignorance is bliss in this case: 1 Hynautic engine control reservoir; 1 Wesmar technician and assorted stabilizer parts, 1 Spectra Clark pump after Papeete technician messed it up
Kathy’s facts:
– bathing suits: 8:)))
– 4 sarongs
– cases of wine: can’t know, lost track:))))
– Baguettes and cheese consumed: see wine
– Best parties on Mystic Moon: Sushi!!
– Shells collected: about 8 large buckets worth
– Most sharks on a dive: Hundreds 🙂
– Doggie cookies given out: about 2 dozen, not many cruisers brought their dogs 🙁
– Dinghies: 1
– Cameras: 3
– KSP (Kathy’s sweaty palm) moments: 10….Not too bad, considering, eh?? 🙂
– Full on melt downs: YB -2, PK -0 ….How ’bout *that*, sports fans?? 🙂
