June 7
Hi All,
Hmmm….as the Brits say….the weather is shite!!!!
We did leave at 10:30am…..ideally we would have left last night or early am but no way with the check out procedures…we left the marina at 8:00am, motored 5nm to the pier 11 wharf, tied up by 8:45am, waited 30 min for Customs and Border Force….Customs was one form and gone, BF took ~45 min to go through the passports again. Then we had to wait for 30 min for Port Control to give us permission to leave!!!
Weather: winds have been somewhat as forecast: 12-18G22kts ENE, but the seas are much bigger, 5-8′ E and short period. We have buried the bow many times and even had waves over the bow and Portuguese bridge and splash the PH windows….whoa!!! We’ve slowed down to 1400rpm and speed varied from 4.9-6.2kts SOG with an avg of 5.5kts.
This am the wave period seemed to have grown a little so we sped up to 1550 rpm and speed up to 5.5-7.4 kts….still pitching severely but not burying the bow.
No one is getting much sleep…..ugh!!!!
