Captain’s Log: Mystic Moon Returns to Friday Harbor After 12+ Years!!!

September 22, 2019 6:52 pm / John

Sept 18-22

Hi All,

Yep….another sense of accomplishment…we return to Friday Harbor!!! Friday Harbor Brokers were the Selene reps when we bought Mystic back in 2003. We actually kept Mystic in Friday Harbor the winter of 2005 and had many delightful times in this small San Juan Island community!!! We left Friday Harbor in April 2007 and finally returned on Sept 18 2019!!! We left Sidney around 9am and made Friday Harbor before noon on Wednesday, 9/18 in very calm conditions and with an ebb/favorable current!!! We used the new CBP App and we were cleared to enter the USA before we even landed in Friday Harbor….wow!!!

And….let the good times roll. Les and Rose came for a few days visit on Thursday, then Mark & Roseanne surprised us with a visit on Friday/Saturday. Then to top it off Phil & Leslie on sv Sagata came into Friday Harbor on Friday….ODG….party on!!!

L&R brought some excellent steaks so the four of us stayed on Mystic Thursday night for opening ceremonies and had a steak Oscar dinner….with some excellent Australian wine….yummers!!! And yes, we still have plenty of crab meat from our very successful crab hunting this season:))) So good to see Les & Rose….they so remember Mystic but had not been back since they crossed the Pacific with us on Mystic in 2013 from the Galapagos to Marquesas. Great memories with them on their Selene 53, Voyager, as well.

Mark & Roseanne came in Friday am and the party began….soon to be joined by Phil & Leslie on sv Sagata. Good times with fresh crab M&R brought from Jerry Nelsen on Anacortes (evidently the crabbing is excellent now in Puget Sound!!). We capped the evening with a good dinner at Downriggers, a local favorite here in Friday Harbor) and then nightcaps on Mystic….the good times rolled indeed.

Friday we were a bit more tame….breakfast on Mystic, a bit of shopping in town, lunch at the local San Juan brewery, M&R left in the early afternoon and then it was a quiet closing ceremony on Mystic with Les & Rose. Sunday L&R took us to an excellent brunch at the Friday Harbor House before they boarded the ferry to continue their vacation with more family in the Seattle area!!! Phil & Leslie came by later in the afternoon for a quick “cuppa” tea. They will be leaving on Monday to some of the SJ Islands and then eventually make their way to Sidney where they will be leaving Sagata for a bit while they do some land travels.

The Plan: Well….tomorrow wraps up our 2019 cruising season. We will leave ~6:30am on Monday in order to make Cattle Pass in good shape and then head over to Port Angeles….~35nm…..should be ok weather with some leftover wind chop/swell from a big blow on Sunday….ugh!!! Then we will have a week to shutdown Mystic for the season as well as prep her to be hauled on Monday 9/30 to have her painted. The next 6 months will be pretty much dedicated to giving Mystic some TLC while we enjoy life back in California with family and friends!!

Hope all is well!!

John
