Hi,
We are finally in Opua. This has been our goal to be here and stage for Fiji for a month or so and we finally made it. Mystic is in pretty good shape…..just need a few minor chores like changing the transmission fluid and some clean up and she is ready for her 6+ day voyage to Fiji!!
And, there looks to be a very good window starting this Wednesday, April 30th (tomorrow). Met Bob will be sending us a route forecast later today and if that is all green then away we go. Are we nervous, you betcha…..1150 nm on our own…..gulp!!!!
We last left off the blog we were back in Marsden licking our wounds from the horrible passage from Great Barrier Island. Kathy is doing better, but her ankle and lower back are still pretty sore….yikes. And, I felt so much empathy my left calf decided to join the pain….I badly pulled the calf muscle helping another boat get off the dock…..cramped up like a big charlie horse and I was playing “Chester” for many days….it’s better but still very sore to touch…..Kathy says we are in good shape however, as between us we can still do a potato sack race:))))
We had a very good time on our run up from Marsden to Opua…..75 nm…..4 days…..we were with Brett and Stacy on sv Bella Vita and it was very enjoyable to be with them and the many happy hours and dinners. We were pretty tired from all the provisioning we did in Whangarei and meeting up with a lot of friends, some we hope to see in Fiji!!! We anchored in Tutukaka, Whangamumu and Urupukapuka…..just love saying the last one:)))) The anchorages were beautiful and we did get to see a late 1900 whale processing plant on Whangamumu.
We will check out of Fiji in the am and we hope to be leaving the marina by 10:00am!!!
