Sept 4
Hi All,
Another very pleasant and boring day….just what you want on an overnighter:))) It’s 3am as I start to write this blog and it struck me that this will be our last overnighter for a while….certainly for this season….whoa!!! It’s not that we object to doing overnighters but they can be tiring with the very real potential of stuff happening…..so, just a bit stressful until it’s over and we are relaxing with that passage beer!!!
AND, this will be the completion of our Pacific Ocean Circumnavigation. Certainly not the same as a world circumnavigation, but nevertheless for Kathy and me, a very real accomplishment!!!!
This has been a true trawler condition day…..winds <10ts and most of the time <5kts, partly sunny, and the swell calmed to 1-3′ from S-SW…..all this made for a smooth ride and warm day!!!
However, the Alaskan Coastal Current decided to not play nice….our favorable current turned foul for a good part of the day…..up to 0.6 foul current….maybe half the time and the other half either neutral or slightly positive. I did increase the rpm’s from 1600 to 1675 to insure we arrive in Sitka early afternoon!!
We could see the coastal mountains 50-75nm away…..the largest mountain was Mt Fairweather….>15k….whoa!!!
